Detainee reported the police arrested him
from Majeedhee Magu (the main road of Male’) at around 23:30 on 17 May 2006.
Detainee reported the police released him without charge on 24 May 2006
Detainee reported policemen in "star force" uniform approached him and ordered
him to accompany them to police headquarters for interrogations. Detainee
reported the police handcuffed him behind his back and transported him to Male'
police headquarters on a police vehicle.
Detainee reported the police removed his handcuffs and held him in an open area
with other detainees. Detainee reported the police transported him to Dhoonidhoo
Island Detention Center by speedboat on the same day.
Detainee reported the police held him in a chair in an open area. Detainee
reported the detaining authorities transferred him to a large cell on 25 May
2006 with sixty four other detainees. Detainee reported the detaining
authorities provided him with a mat and edible food.
Detainee reported the interrogating authorities questioned him on 25 May 2006 as
to whether he participated in the gathering on Majeedhee Magu. Detainee reported
he explained to the interrogating officers that he did not participate in the
gathering. Detainee reported he signed a statement on the same day.
Detainee reported the detaining authorities allowed him to telephone his family
on 26 May 2006.
Detainee reported the police released him without charge on 24 May 2006 and
warned him not to engage in "such acts" in the future. Detainee reported he
signed a statement to that effect. Detainee reported the police transported him
back to Male' police headquarters and released him shortly.

Sister of detainee reported an acquaintance of detainee informed her that the
police arrested the detainee at around 02:45 on 18 May 2006. Sister of detainee
reported the police telephoned her on 18 May 2006 and informed her that the
detainee remains in police custody.
Sister of detainee reported the police did not provide any explanation as to why
the detainee was arrested.
