Daughter of Mr Majid reported that the lawyer retained by Mr Majid had access to
detainee on 14 August 2005 in the police headquarters in Male and on 15 August
2005 at Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre. Daughter of Mr Majid reported that the
lawyer retained for Mr Majid adivsed her that Mr Majid was well but had not been
taken for investigation.

The family of Mr. Majid reported that Mr Majid was handcuffed, as opposed to
bound, with his hands behind his back before he was taken in a police vehicle on
13 August 2005.
Acquaintance of Mr. Hassan Zahir, Mr. Ahmed Zahir and Mr. Abdul Majid reported
he informed the Commonwealth Secretariat and British Foreign Office that the
Maldivian government had detained Mr Hassan Zahir, Mr Ahmed Zahir and Abdul
Majid solely because of their association with the same acquaintance who is
recognized as a political refugee by the British government.
Acquaintance of Mr. Hassan Zahir, Mr. Ahmed Zahir and Mr. Abdul Majid reported
he informed the Commonwealth Secretariat and British Foreign Office that none of
these individuals were present at the gathering on 12 August 2005, were not
closely involved in the activities of the opposition and had provided no
material support to the opposition.

Wife of Mr. Majid reported that three policemen apprehended Mr. Majid at his
home at approximately 05:15 on 14 August 2005. Wife of Mr. Majid reported that
the police refused her request to let Mr. Majid perform his dawn prayers before
he was taken. Wife of Mr Majid reported that Mr Majid was not allowed to take
his wallet or other personal items.
Wife of Mr Majid reported that Mr Majid requested her to retain a lawyer before
he was taken. Wife of Mr Majid reported that she had retained a lawyer for this
purpose.

approximately 13:00 to ask where and on what grounds Mr. Majid was being
detained. Wife of Mr. Majid reported that the police informed her that Mr. Majid
was currently under their custody for reasons relating to the current situation
in Male’. Wife of Mr Majid reported that the police would not provide any
further information.

home during the late night. Wife of Mr Majid reported that Mr Majid is a
founding member of the principal opposition party and a high-profile
businessman.
