Regarding Further Operations by Police to Reduce Crime
Following the increase, in these days in Male’ and in some other islands, of
acts such as theft, extortion, drug offenses and assault in public places by
people bunching up in groups or by other methods, the Police will undertake
further operations in the hours of the day and night.
And in order to reduce such acts the Police will question those on the streets
late in the night. Therefore we appeal for those out on the streets on various
errands to have with them their Maldivian Identity Cards to show the Police and
if they are foreigners, we appeal them to carry their work permits or other such
authentic document that demonstrates their identity.
Moreover the Police are encountering difficulties when visiting locations where
street incidents occur due to the number of people who assemble in such places
as spectators. The Police are also encountering difficulties in finding items on
the crime scene and also in finding the offenders. Therefore the Police appeal
not to act as such.
