The Criminal Court today held the third hearing of Hussein Yoosuf of Bright Flower of Maafannu District of Male’ who the State is charging for assault for having stabbed two security personnel in the unrest that occurred in the Republic Square on 12 and 13 August last year.

 

In the third hearing of the trial of Hussein Yoosuf being charged for attacking two NSS [National Security Service] personnel with a deadly weapon, lawyers of the two parties advocated on their respective party’s behalf today.

 

The lawyer of Hussein Yoosuf, Ahmed Muiz, said that in order to describe Hussein Yoosuf’s health and psychological condition in relation to the State’s charges on him under article 127 and 88 of the Penal Code an expert doctor needed to be summoned to the trial. Muiz also requested that Hussein Yoosuf to be sent to IGMH (Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital) in order to be examined by a psychologist.

 

State Attorney Raeefa Abdul Wahhab that Hussein Yoosuf had manifestly declared that he stabbed them out of revenge and that there was no need to get an expert to ascertain his psychological condition.

 

Judge Adam Saeed presiding over the trail said that if a document was submitted concerning the health condition of Hussein Yoosuf he would consider it. And that the Court as yet had no established principle to send the Defendant to the hospital [for an examination].

 

The Judge also said on the next trail of the case shall involve taking précis statements from both parties.
