statements was taken on Thursday of the trial of Hussein Yoosuf of Bright Flower
of Maafannu District of Male’ who was charged by the State in connection with
stabbing and injuring two policemen when people assembled and caused unrest at
the Republic Square on 12 and 13 August last year.
After taking the final statements from both parties Adam Saeed, the judge presiding over the case at the Criminal Court, said next would be passing a verdict on the trial of Hussein Yoosuf and that a judgment will be passed next Monday.
State Attorney Raeefa Abdul Wahhab produced the first précis statement to conclude the trial proceedings of Hussein Yoosuf charged under article 127 of the Penal Code for attacking and assaulting two policemen with a deadly weapon and under 88(a) of the Penal Code, Disobedience to Order.
Given that Hussein Yoosuf admitted on the stabbing and that he said he did it out of revenge, compensation for the expenditure incurred for the medical treatment of the two injured is sought Raeefa said. She also said that the State saw him as a person who showed no mercy to the community and as a dangerous person.
The lawyer advocating in defense of Hussein Yoosuf, Ahmed Muizzu, said that Hussein Yoosuf happened to commit the act because of the torture inflicted on him in jail and he was not aware psychologically that he was committing an offense. Muizzu also said that he did not think the Defendant had to give compensation for the medical treatment sought abroad by the injured two due the act committed by the Defendant.
