The President of the Republic al-Ustaaz Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom yesterday established a  committee to conduct a comprehensive, free and independent investigation into reports that a detainee held in jail for investigations had been maltreated.

The Members of the Special Committee are Mr. Ahmed Mohamed, Mr. Muthasim Adnan and Dr. Mohamed Habeeb.

The Committee will conduct a full investigation and submit a report to the President.
